🧬 How to Read Your Labs When “Normal” Isn’t the Full Story

A gentle look at liver function, detox, and the missing context

Using ALT (liver enzyme) as an example

You’re looking at two views of the same lab marker: ALT.

One reflects a hospital reference range.

The other reflects a functional optimal range.

Both are valid — but they answer different questions.

Step 1: Understand What “Normal” Means

Conventional ranges are designed to detect disease. If you’re inside that range, the system often stops looking.

Functional ranges look at efficiency and stress.

They ask: Is the body working harder than it should?

👉 A result can be normal and still reflect burden.

Step 2: Look for Trends, Not Just Numbers

Your graph shows a pattern over time.

Even within range, trends may reveal:

• Increased detox demand

• Environmental exposure

• Medication load

• Inflammatory stress

During my Lyme journey, I learned to track trends — not just single results.

That’s when patterns began to make sense.

Step 3: Add Context — Your Body Is Not a Spreadsheet

Labs without context can be misleading.

Ask:

• Was I on antibiotics?

• Was I exposed to mold or chemicals?

• Was I under chronic stress?

• Were hormones shifting?

My liver wasn’t failing — it was adapting to increased demand.

That distinction changed everything.

Step 4: Use a Root-Cause Lens

Functional Medicine taught me to ask: Why is this happening?

Functional Genomics taught me: How does my body uniquely respond?

Your terrain is shaped by:

• Toxicity

• Deficiencies

• Genetic detox capacity

• Environmental load

This is why two people with the same lab result can feel completely different.

Step 5: Support the Terrain, Not Just the Number

I didn’t chase ALT.

I learned to support:

✔ Detox pathways

✔ Mineral balance

✔ Antioxidant buffering

✔ Safe, appropriate products

✔ My genetic blueprint

I personally support my system with targeted nutrition and ROOT Wellness products designed to assist detox, cellular repair, and terrain stability.

When the terrain improved, the labs followed.

Why This Matters

If the liver is overloaded:

• Estrogen clearance slows

• Histamine rises

• Inflammation persists

• Brain fog worsens

• Supplements feel ineffective

It’s not that nothing is working.

It’s that the exit pathways need support.
